15 weeks and going strong

Well, yesterday was my 15-week appointment with Dr. Owens. I went in at 8:30AM to start my glucose testing and right off the bat they took about 8 tubes of blood and had me drink the lovely orange glucose cocktail that everyone so looks forward to during their pregnancy! :) I chugged it down, and then settled into my room waiting for the doctor. She came in and we chatted a bit about how things are going, then she measured my uterus (fundus, for you medical geeks ;0) he he). I couldn't believe that the top of it is already so close to my belly button! Jason and I have been thinking it was still pretty low, but wow, it is all progressing so quickly, and she informed me just how much more quickly it will extend upwards...good times await this short-waisted girl, I'm sure :)

Once she was done with her measurements, so brought out the doppler and found the baby's heartbeat on the first try! I told her that was skilled, and she said even though she's a doctor, that's still called luck ;0) The baby's heartbeat was strong in the 150's and sounded good to her, and of course, was music to my ears.

She then did a physical exam on the part of my back that has been giving me so many problems as of late. She had me walk around the room a bit, try and extend my legs against pressure, and then looked at the inflammation. She thinks that it is my sacral iliac joint (the joint that brings together your pelvis and your lower back), and she wants me to have some physical therapy done before things get worse further in my pregnancy. So, I'm anxiously awaiting the referral information so that I can have my first PT appt soon and start getting some relief. It's not bad every day, but the days when I'm kind of glued to my chair at work in a seated position seem to make things worse (worse for Jason too, bless his heart, waiting on me hand and foot those evenings...we love him!)

So, once the doctor and I were finished with our appointment, it was back to the waiting room to read more of my Dave Ramsey Total Money Makeover book (yes, Jason, I'm 1/4 of the way through) and wait for the phlebotomist to call me back in for more blood draws. After an hour had passed, we did our next draw of 3 tubes, and back to the waiting room for my next call another hour later for another tube, and then I was off to lunch, finally...the baby wasn't happy that morning that we were fasting overnight before the appointment and we couldn't have our routine morning milk and breakfast (okay, maybe I wasn't happy, but you get the point ;0) he he)

So, all of that being said and looking good, we have our next appointment December 10th (my mom's birthday). This appointment will include our anatomy ultrasound where we find out if it's a baby girl or baby boy Lonei, and then we'll have an appt with the dr to discuss everything else. I am SO excited! :)

Until then, I can't wait to leave next Friday to go home and see our families for Thanksgiving...we can't wait to meet our newest nephew Ryan, babysit him for a few days, and then see Evan and how much he's grown (and how sassy he is ;0) he he) once he and the Nixon's get there on Wednesday of Thanksgiving week.

More to come...much love to you all...xoxoxo
